The course at Rathfarnham Golf Club will soon feature 18 holes thanks to a project led by architect Jeff Howes.

Founded in 1899 and located near Dublin, Ireland, Rathfarnham Golf Club was built as an a nine hole course but after a wait of 116 years, the members will soon have a full 18.

Five holes were added to the course in 2002, and in 2008 Howes added another hole to bring the total to 15.

This year the club purchased additional land adjacent to the course and hired Jeff Howes Golf Design to design three new holes. Work started at the beginning of July and the holes were grassed in mid-August.

Howes was instrumental in organising the planning application, carrying out the design work, and supervising the project. The architect is currently adding the finishing touches to three of the existing holes, which involves the replacing of one hole and the redesigning of two holes, with the aim of allowing the routing to flow more naturally.

“I can’t wait to play the course next year, it’ll be fun,” said Howes. “I am absolutely delighted with the result.”

The new 18-hole course will be ready for play in April 2015.
