Infinite Variety Golf Design has started renovation work at Maritim Golfpark Ostsee in Warnsdorf, Germany.
The club’s 27-hole course is close to the seaside resort of Timmendorfer Strand and popular with local members and tourists.
Work will be undertaken in two phases, the first of which will be a complete redesign of bunkers. Many will be repositioned in a more asymmetrical manner, visibility will be significantly improved and the total surface area, which currently stands at over 14,000 square metres, will be reduced by over 75 per cent. BunkerMat liner will also be installed.
The second phase will include the construction of a new six-hole short course, which will occupy three hectares of land close to the clubhouse and driving range. A large pond will be built at its centre. The course has been designed to be playable for all while still a challenge for skilled golfers.
Hendrik Hilgert, head of German operations for IVGD, said: “Frank Pont and I are delighted to be delivering this project for the Maritim Hotel Group. IVGD’s profound knowledge of classic era architecture has proved very useful given that we are reconfiguring many of the existing 27 holes to deliver more strategic intent and have designed the new short course with a similar ethos at its core.”
Dirf Holdorf, manager of Maritim Golfpark Ostsee, said: “We are excited to be elevating our beautiful 27-hole complex to a new level. We warmed to IVGD’s proposals and prescribed approach the moment they were tabled. We are confident that the renovation of our bunkers will have an immediate and positive impact, and our new short course will be of particular interest to beginners and parents playing with their children.”
Weather permitting, the entire project should be completed in three months. Dutch firm SBA is working with IVGD as the onsite contractor.
