A massive integrated resort, first announced several years, may be about to start construction on the Indonesian island of Lombok.
The Mandalika resort, being developed by state-owned firm Bali Tourism Development Corporation, will cover a beachside site of almost 1,200 hectares, around fifteen minutes from the new Lombok Bandara international airport.
The first phase of the resort, which will include a golf course, rumoured to be designed by Jack Nicklaus’s firm, could also incorporate a theme park, a maritime museum and a Formula One race track. Construction of the first phase is slated to be completed within three-five years.
