Silvermere Golf Club in England has started a renovation project under the direction of Swan Golf Designs.
Contractor Grassform has begun the reconstruction of the home green, the first phase of the renovation project at the busy Surrey golf and leisure destination. The programme, identified in an audit and appraisal report for the whole of this 1973 Swan-designed course, will encompass design modifications, particularly in bunkering, to improve its golfing and technical performance.
The par four eighteenth, which plays over the famous Silvermere lake to a peninsula green, being remodelled to improve its appearance both from the course and from the adjacent Inn on the Lake. “The construction of the green complex is beginning to show its age and the upgrade will include new piling to the water’s edge as well as a remodelling of the surrounds,” said Howard Swan.
This first stage of the renovation project is anticipated to be completed by mid-March, with the green being brought back in play in time for Easter. Swan expects to start a full renovation of the course’s bunkering strategy under the direction of Swan Golf Designs will commence in the autumn of this year, together with some minor layout changes and improvements to the drainage on the second nine.
