EIGCA president Peter Fjallman has expressed his delight at the positive feedback he has received following the annual EIGCA Conference Week, which took place 1-5 April in Estoril, Portugal.
The week-long programme of events began with a two-day educational workshop for students on the EIGCA Vocational Qualifiication Course. This included site visits to the courses at Ribagolfe Golf Club, Vargem Fresca and Golf de Montado, all a short distance from Estoril.
The President’s Cup competition took place on the Wednesday and Thursday. The annual EIGCA golf tournament was played over 36 holes, with competitors playing the Arthur Hills designed Oitavos Dunes course on the Tuesday followed by the Estoril Golf Club on the Wednesday.
The institute’s annual general meeting took place on Thursday afternoon and saw Peter Fjallman and Tom Mackenzie unanimously re-elected in their respective roles as president and vice president of the EIGCA.
Alan Walker and Svein Drange Olsnes were elected on to the EIGCA Council and five new associate members were revealed, in the shape of Matt Osborne, Dave Sampson, Virginia Costa, Michael Terech and Rogelio Abarca. Marco Martin was also accepted as a senior member.
The week concluded with the President’s Dinner at the Hotel Palacio on the Friday night.
“I am so pleased that our guests enjoyed our 2014 conference week,” said Fjallman. “We do our best to provide a relaxed atmosphere where the golf industry can get together to discuss the important issues of the day, whether that be in the lecture hall or on the golf course or afterwards at our formal functions and often later in the bar. Each year we try to provide the right balance between continued professional development, networking possibilities and social events and, from the reaction of our members, partners and patrons, I believe that we have once again achieved it. I must thank all those involved for making it such a success, especially our industry and consultant partners to whom we are indebted for their continuing support.”
