Belgian golf architect Dimitri van Hauwaert has started work on a new project in the Netherlands.
At Golf Club Meerssen, in the village of Bunde, near Maastricht, van Hauwaert's firm, Diamond Golf Architects, is extending the course from six to nine holes. Club members voted in favour of the project at a meeting on 1 August, and construction work started only two days later. Contracting firm Mourik, which previously handled course maintenance, is in charge of the works.
Acquisition of more land enabled the expansion, but club members decided on a more substantial project, involving the reconstruction of the entire course. Nine new greens are being built, using GPS technology. Reopening is planned for April 2010.
