Oklahoma-based golf architect Tripp Davis has signed up to build his first course in China.

The 36-hole project, located in Guangdong province, is being developed with the assistance of Dr Aylwin Tai, known as the Godfather of Chinese golf. Tai was the first general manager of Chung Shan Hot Spring, China’s first golf course, and brought the European Tour to the country with the China Open.

Davis is also busy in Mexico, where the Turtle Dunes course in Acapulco is in construction and expected to open next spring. Developer Global Hospitality Investments is renovating the historic Fairmont Princess resort. “The land for the golf course was historically coastal sand dunes, and the design for Turtle Dunes will restore and integrate sand dunes into the course,” he said. Troon Golf will operate the property.
