Fazio Design is overseeing a bunker renovation project on its layout at Bull’s Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Connecticut.
The firm is working alongside golf course superintendent Stephen Hicks and his team, on the first major renovation of the course since it opened in 2004.
Bunkers will be added at the first, third, sixth, ninth, tenth, thirteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth. On these and other holes, some existing bunkers are also being repositioned to improve visibility, or removed to address changes in equipment and enhance course playability.
Other work includes expanding bentgrass fairway and short-cut approach areas on selected holes and building additional tees. New back tees will be added on the second, ninth and eighteenth and new forward tees on holes three, six, ten and seventeen.
As a result, the total yardage of the course from the back tees will increase to about 7,200 yards, an increase of more than 200 yards.
Bull’s Bridge has also received approval for a clubhouse expansion. Architect Erik Furno has redesigned the existing clubhouse and designed a new golf house, connected by a breezeway.
“This is an exciting time at Bull’s Bridge, with these significant upgrades being made to enhance overall member enjoyment of our facilities,” said general manager Brian Freeswick.
Grow-in and full completion of the golf course project is expected by November 2023.
