Trump Golf has purchased the Doonbeg Golf Club in County Clare, Ireland, becoming the sixteenth golf club to be added to the Trump portfolio.
Originally designed by Greg Norman’s firm and opened in 2002, the 18-hole championship links course covers 400 acres on the Irish Atlantic coast, with two and a half miles of course fronting onto the ocean.
As part of the acquisition, the club will be renamed ‘Trump International Golf Links, Ireland’.
“Doonbeg is an already terrific property that we will make even better – it will soon be an unparalleled resort destination with the highest standards of luxury,” said Trump.
Trump Golf has considerably furthered its range of courses in the past 18 months with the addition of Trump International Golf Club, Dubai, Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, and Trump National Doral, Miami, home of the World Golf Championships and iconic ‘Blue Monster’ course.
The site is home to The Lodge at Doonbeg, which features 218 hotel suites, a spa and numerous restaurants. Trump has expanded his global range of hotels considerably in the past 12 months, and the Doonbeg purchase is in addition to that of the Trump International Hotel, The Old Post Office in Washington D.C, the Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver and the Trump Hotel Rio de Janeiro.
Donald Trump’s sons Donald Jr. and Eric will be arriving in Ireland on 12 February 2014 to finalise plans.
