Construction begins on Rijks’ new designs for Schaerweijde
Construction work has started on Alan Rijks’ renovation of the nine-hole course at Schaerweijde Golf, near Utrecht in the Netherlands.
The work, which was approved by the club in summer 2019, is focused on improving drainage, greens and approaches. Bunkers will also be reduced in size and made more visible, with some relocated, and a new sprinkler system will be introduced.
The club hopes that the project will make the course – which comprises eight par threes and a par four – more playable for all.
Among the most notable changes will be the new third hole, where two greens will be been replaced with a single wider green, guarded by a central bunker.
Dutch contractor De Ridder BV began work in January and is expected to finish in March. Seeding will take place in April with a view to the new greens being playable in September.
