Clearwater Bay expands feature lake as part of range redesign
Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club in Hong Kong has completely redesigned its driving range, with the help of design firm TP Golf, synthetic turf specialists Southwest Greens Construction and construction firm Linksshape.
The range’s feature lake was redesigned and expanded to enhance the practice experience, while also increasing the capacity of water that can be stored for irrigation.
Seven target greens have been tucked within the winding lake, each featuring the Southwest Greens PRO System of synthetic turf. “Being able to feature our top product on a high-level range such as this creates a satisfying feeling, both because we get to be part of a beautiful renovation, and because we know the members are going to experience the performance of the greens as they hit balls to them,” said Kevin Holinaty, president of Southwest Greens Construction.
“We undertook the project at the heart of the rain season in Hong Kong, which always creates construction challenges,” said Andy Durie, project manager of Linksshape. “Typhoon Mangkhut hit the club pretty hard but luckily and thankfully there was no damage sustained to the driving range area, except for a few minor repairs. We are very pleased with how the project went.”
Peter Downie, the club’s director of golf and general manager said: “Not only have we solved irrigation capacity with the new lake, we are extremely satisfied with the end result.”
The range was completed in time for the Clearwater Bay Open, a PGA Tour Series China event, held from 11-14 October.
