Chris Wilczynski begins renovation work at Warwick Hills

Chris Wilczynski of C.W. Golf Architecture has started a renovation project at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan, the long-time home of the PGA Tour’s Buick Open.

The initial phase of the renovation begins with work on the twelfth and fourteenth holes — two short par fours.

Fairway bunkers will be renovated in a manner to mimic the existing greenside bunkers and aesthetic vision of Joe Lee who redesigned the course in 1968, eleven years after it was originally designed by James Gilmore Harrison.

“The fairway bunkers will be repositioned to be more visually appealing, to create more challenges for better players and to prompt average players to think more about tee-to-green strategy,” said Wilczynski.

Golf course contractor Eagle Golf Construction began work after the 2019 PGA Champions Tour Ally Challenge, which finished on 15 September. As part of the renovation project, new forward tees will also be added on the course.

Chris Kuciemba, golf course superintendent at Warwick Hills, said: “We are excited to be working with CWGA and Eagle Golf Construction on the renovation of our golf course. This is a busy time as we begin a renovation project following the preparation and execution of our Ally Challenge PGA Champions Tour event. We have a great team and plan for this work. We are excited to improve our course and create an even better product for our membership and guests.”
