Beau Welling oversees reshaping of the twelfth green at Sandy Hills Links
A project to reshape the green on the twelfth hole at the Sandy Hills Links course at the Rosapenna Hotel and Golf Resort has been completed.
Architect Beau Welling and his design associate Scott Benson have led the work at the course in Letterkenny, Ireland.
“We started in late November 2015 by stripping 3,000 sq yards of turf and totally reshaping the entire green complex and surrounds,” Frank Casey Jnr, director of golf at Rosapenna, told GCA. “We also softened two fairway mounds short left of the green.”
Local shaper Shane McNamee was brought in for the project, with Casey and superintendent Paul Travers overseeing the work.
The Sandy Hills Links course opened in 2003 and was designed by Pat Ruddy. Rosapenna is also home to the famous Old Tom Morris Links.
Beau Welling had previously worked at Rosapenna on a similar project back in 2013, which saw the greens on holes thirteen and eighteen reshaped.
Casey explained that much of the work on the course since it opened has been done to improve its playability. This has included the introduction of wider mowing lines, the filling in of selected green side bunkers, new teeing areas, and the working of the greens on holes twelve, thirteen and eighteen.
