ASGCA launches new water use and stewardship book
The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) has launched a new book covering the use of water at golf facilities across North America and globally.
Showcased at the recent Golf Industry Show in San Diego, US, Golf & Water: Case Studies in Water Stewardship covers more than a dozen examples of courses that ASGCA members and others within the golf industry have had a positive impact on the management of water.
ASGCA president Steve Smyers said: “This book will help those who develop land – and make decisions about how golf fits into a community – see how golf is committed to good stewardship when it comes to water, our most vital natural resource.”
Since 2005, water use has been reduced on golf courses in North America by more than 22 per cent according to the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. The new book examines how this has been achieved, covering areas such as energy consumption, turfgrass management, the use of retention lakes and better irrigation practices. The book also looks at how the use of water will continue to evolve in the future.
