ASGCA highlights six golf projects that demonstrate environmental excellence

The American Society of Golf Course Architects has announced the honourees for its 2020 Environmental Excellence Awards.

Projects at Diablo Country Club, Duxbury Yacht Club, Links on the Bayou, Rockland Country Club, Seletar Country Club and Shenandoah Country Club have been chosen for their work with ASGCA members in addressing unique environmental challenges.

The Environmental Excellence Awards program, presented by Ewing Irrigation & Landscape Supply, was introduced in 2019 to recognise the innovative work being done at golf facilities to address the needs of the environment, where golf course architects work with course owners and operators to make a positive impact on the game and the host community.

This year those architects are Todd Eckenrode, John Sanford, Nathan Crace, John Harvey, David Dale and Kevin Ramsey, and Chris Wilczynski.

“This is a stellar group of projects being recognised this year,” said ASGCA president Jan Bel Jan. “I extend hearty congratulations to each of these facilities’ operators and the golf course architects for their commitment to improving the environmental landscape while also assisting the facilities in becoming more sustainable and profitable.”

The projects have produced a wide range of environmental benefits for the various clubs, including reducing water consumption, bolstering wildlife habitats, protecting historic trees, reducing turf areas, doubling water storage capacity and many more.

Submissions were reviewed by golf industry and environmental leaders, including representatives of Audubon International, GEO Foundation, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and National Golf Course Owners Association.
