enhanced the green surrounds on both the Old and New courses. While for Elie, near Fife, Scotland, renovation work has coincided with the club’s 150th anniversary, with CJW Golf helping with the construction of 16 new revetted bunkers and new tee pads that have been introduced to add distance and new angles to the course. Work at Verulam in Hertfordshire has included the building of 21 bunkers with new rubber liner and sand; and at Royal Ascot in Berkshire, CJW Golf worked with architect Bruce Weller to improve playability of bunkers and improve turf conditions around the second, seventh and eighth holes. In early November, CJW Golf began work at Monifieth Golf Links, located near Carnoustie and across the bay from St Andrews, on what will be a multi-year project to reinstate strategy and variety. Changes will include rebunkering, creating runoff areas, as well as relocating tees and greens. “Monifieth will be an exciting project for us over the next couple of winters,” says Conor Walsh of CJW Golf International. “The aim of these works will be to bring back strategy by repositioning bunkers, removing some bunkers and creating greenside runoffs. The topography on the links is phenomenal and unique! The team have already started to progress with these changes, which should help bring back strategy and encourage the ground game once again.” For more on CJW Golf International, turn to page 37, or visit www.cjwgolfinternational.com 11 The Torre course at Terras da Comporta will open for preview play in June 2025 Photo: CJW Golf International
