PROMOTED Kafka Granite Booth: 5445 Rutgers University Golf Course in Piscataway, New Jersey, recently built an accessible tee box pathway. After consulting with Dave Barton, executive director of the National Alliance for Accessible Golf, it was suggested that Rutgers use Kafka Granite’s wax-coated pathway material to create a sloped pathway to bypass inaccessible steps on their eleventh tee box. This patented, erosion-resistant material consists of a polymeric wax-coated aggregate, with each individual granule of stone dust coated in wax. With water unable to penetrate the material, it creates a sealed, non-permeable surface that is aesthetically pleasing while requiring very little maintenance, even on the steepest of slopes. Kafka’s wax-coated pathway material allowed Rutgers University to create a natural yet firm surface to their elevated tee box, eliminating mud, dust and erosion. The 18-hole championship course underwent a tees, greens and bunkers remodelling, while greens and fairways were also resodded. The short-game practice area, now named Loop 12, involved a complete greens renovation and new construction, including the installation of new irrigation and hydronics systems and overall infrastructure. Regrassing fairways, feature surrounds and select rough was also completed, while bunkers were reshaped and new liners installed. “Applause to the construction and irrigation superintendents for their keen attention to detail,” said Theron Harvey, general manager of Dallas National. “Members are raving about the additions and maintenance efficiencies are significant.”
