Most of the holes on the championship course will be routed on a high plateau 50 metres above a large wadi 38 “ The sheer scale of the surrounding landscape at Wadi Safar is stunning” GCA spoke with Greg Norman about his firm’s Wadi Safar project in Saudi Arabia Greg Norman is working on the Wadi Safar golf course in Saudi Arabia alongside his associate Chris Campbell, who is overseeing the project. Wadi Safar is part of the Diriyah Gate development, a US$50 billion megaproject located on the outskirts of the country’s capital, Riyadh. We spoke with Norman to find out how the course is progressing. What stage is the project at and when is completion expected? I travelled to Riyadh to make a site visit in 2019 and we began designing the course that same year. We started construction in 2020 and spent the next year or so completing bulk earthworks. We’ve spent the majority of 2022 getting the final shaping of the holes dialled in and installing irrigation, cart paths and sandcapping.
