New seaside course for Estonia

The Baltic republic of Estonia is to get a new course on a sandy seaside site in the country’s south-west.

Finnish architect Lassi Pekka Tilander is designing the course, located on a short distance away from the summer resort city of Pärnu. The site has 1.5 kilometres of sandy, heather-covered seaside land, and is intended to offer a combination of links and heathland golf. The final five holes will be built along the shoreline.

Clearing has already begun on the site, and now the developer, Estonian firm Golfer OÜ, has hired contractor Greenmakers by Nelson&Vecchio to build the course. Construction work will commence in mid-June.

David Nelson said: “With a site like this we have a great foundation to create one of the greatest golf courses ever built in Northern Europe.“ The course is projected to open during summer 2014, along with associated housing and a hotel.
