Ballyliffin Golf Club in Ireland’s County Donegal has opened the rebuilt par three seventh hole on its Glashedy Links course.

The hole was entirely revamped over the winter under the supervision of Irish architect Pat Ruddy, who originally designed the course back in the 1990s in collaboration with Tom Craddock.

“The tee complex had subsided somewhat, resulting in a ridge running diagonally across it,” club GM John Farren told GCA. “That made much of the teeing area unusable. In addition, we had an ongoing issue with the proximity of the seventh green complex to the tees for the next hole. So, along with Pat, we decided the best solution was to move the green forwards about 25 yards, and the tees back a similar distance to maintain the length of the hole.”

Turf was lifted from the existing seventh green and used to build the new complex. The new green location brings the adjoining lake more into play. “The new complex was completed with mounding at the front and rear, and four new bunkers. The result is a hole that plays between 150 and 180 yards, from an elevated tee, giving stunning views of the entire Ballyliffin complex, and also the sea,” said Farren.
